HI YAH!

I'm not sure what started Cameron's obsession with martial arts. He got approximately 15 flyers in his folder home from school the first two weeks for boy scouts, flag football, soccer, basketball, and martial arts. For some reason he taped up the crumpled martial arts flyer to his wall. It was crumpled because I threw it away, but apparently he wanted it badly. He fished it out of the trash can, borrowed tape from Jordan, hung it up in his room, and started asking for karate lessons in early August. He can point out every martial arts studio in town (and does whenever we're out). He can even read the painted windows as we pass by, "One free week for beginners!" We already knew he is persistent, and now he applies that to wanting to take classes!

I don't know what the pull is for him...except maybe the outfit? The picture he drew at school shows weapons, but I'm pretty sure he knows we aren't going to let him have ANY weapons EVER...except the foam sword downstairs. Anyway, every library book he has brought home from school has had a karate theme, and he's been begging to watch a karate movie, which he hasn't gotten permission. He even says he wants to be a karate teacher when he grows up.

I'm thankful that Richard was wise to offer classes as an incentive for good behavior while he was out of town last month. This goal not only helped Cameron's decision making, but helped me by stopping the incessant questions about when he could start and why I wouldn't take him! I'm happy to say he begin classes LAST WEEK!

I'm thankful for this outlet for him, for self control, for his athleticism making up for his lack of coordination, and for his smile when he puts on that white uniform.
I'm thankful for the reference from a friend of a good studio to go to, and for the new moms I meet when I take Cameron.
I'm thankful for the fun it has brought to all of us as we have watched this little boy become even more crazy over this sport.
And I'm still laughing at the video Richard took of him grappling (wrestling) for the first time yesterday, and that later in the evening I found Richard teaching Sheridan some moves downstairs and Jordan flipping Cameron around the basement while still wearing his uniform!
