Game Night

Tonight Richard and I sat down with Sheridan and Jordan and played Catch Phrase. This is a fast talking game where you try to get your partner to say a word by giving them clues. There are some obvious rules: you can't say it rhymes with something, you can't use hand motions, you can't spell it or say it in another language. It was Jordan's idea to play tonight and I'm glad we did!

Jordan provided several game-pausing funny moments tonight. Here are a few worthy for QUOTE OF THE DAY.

~  Jordan is giving clues...."It's a restaurant that starts with an O and has "garden" in it."


 ~  I'm giving clues to Jordan for the word "peanut."
Me: "I spread this on bread for your sandwiches with jelly."
Jordan: "..."
Me: "I love this food and you had it for lunch today spread on bread with jelly."
Jordan: "turkey?"
Me: "..."


 ~ Jordan giving clues again.... "It's a fish that's gold."



 ~ I'm giving clues to Jordan, the word is "insane."
Me: "crazy?"
Jordan: "..."
Me: "Ok, what's the opposite of "out?"
Jordan: "in!"
Me: "Ok, use that with another word for crazy."
Jordan: "incrazy!"
Me: "Yes, incrazy." Passing the game to the left.

To set the scene: Richard is out of town, it's in between snack and dinner and I've turned Cameron down at least twice for food, and it's a Monday...

He comes up to me while I'm cooking in the kitchen (again) and says, "I like God first and then you."

Signed, Sealed?, and Delivered

Adoption Update #234...

From my email on Thursday: another form from the Adoption Specialist...then I got a phone call asking  if we could get them notarized and in LR by the Friday. I copied off the papers at home, and met Richard in LR at 11:15 on Friday. Fortunately, he was flying in from a 2 day trip in Houston. 

We met the AS at the DHS office, signed the papers, had the papers notarized in the office, and the AS followed us out of the building to FILE them. FILE them at the courthouse. LIKE, when they are "accepted" they'll put us on the docket...maybe in the next two weeks? Who knows? 

I had Sheridan take a picture of us signing...I think SOMEDAY we'll want to remember just how hard they made it all, and yet, how much we wanted to do it to have Jordan and Cameron as part of our family, officially. 

Quote of The Day: When we were waiting on our copy of the newly signed papers, Jordan asked if we were going to go to eat. (I mean, it was 11:30 and she's ALWAYS HUNGRY) 

Richard (jokingly) answered: "No, we're not eating today. At all."

Jordan: "Hey! You just signed a paper saying you would provide for me!"

Today, I snuck in an opportunity to tell Jordan that when she looked for a husband, she should look for someone like her dad...someone who helped, who was kind, and played with kids too.

She's never hear me say these things before, and I've never hinted at her future beyond the week before...but she looked me in the eye and said, "I'll just look on Christian Mingle."   ...we might be watching too much TV...

Get a CLUE

SWEET Katelyn is explaining to Jordan how to play Clue. Kate starts the game setting up the premise: "Someone has killed someone."
Jordan: "Here?"
Kate: "No, not here, these are just plastic characters."

Jordan: "It might be her, (looking over Mrs White) she has a pan in her hand."

Classic Erin

Erin left on a bus for church camp this morning at 6:30. SO very thankful she's headed toward Lauren at Falls Creek for a week. Lauren works 14 hour days, so I'm not sure they'll be able to visit much. However, I did bake 2 batches of my semi-famous chocolate chip cookies to send to her. I knew Erin and friends would want some, so I included a Ziploc so Erin could make sure to get some to Lauren.

Lauren just sent this picture captioned : "Look who I found!"

Then a quote from Erin: "I have cookies for you...
you're down to 4."

Quote of the Day

You have to know that Cameron will join any conversation, from anywhere in the room or car, even if it's not his conversation. All he needs is one word. For instance, If I tell Richard I need to get milk at the grocery store. Cameron pipes up, "Mom, can I have some milk?"

So tonight...I can't even remember exactly what I said, but it was something like...
"What do you think I mean?" to Jordan.
Jordan replies, "I don't know, I can't read your mind!" 
Cameron chimes in as he's leaving the room, "I can't even read."

Introduced the Donut Man to the kids tonight while Sheridan was at soccer practice. They snuggled in the chair together to watch the RESURRECTION CELEBRATION!

I have a tender spot in my heart for these movies and the impact that they had on my kids when they were little...I anticipated a wonderful response...and as a whole, it was a good way to reinforce the Easter miracle. ...  However, once they saw Duncan (the donut puppet) Jordan says, "I just want to eat that donut." Cameron adds, "Yes, I'd just take off his eyes and eat him."

This morning Cameron said he didn't want eggs. I haven't offered them before, but Richard asked him why he didn't want them today. He says, "They have birds in them." That's a good reason not to eat eggs.

Day 1: six plus three

 

Quote of the Day: While picking up littleM from his daycare on Friday morning, he ran out, gave me a hug, then turned back to hug one of the ladies working there. As he hugged her, his gaze went to a room full of kids, most older than him, and yelled, "I'm not ever coming back!"

This truly choked me up, and even tugged on the adoption specialist who was there to help us get him. As littleM went out the door and ran into Lauren's arms, we loaded his bag of clothes and noticed both the ladies working there were standing at the glass doors looking at us go. There were a room full of children there... watching our happy ending. For the first time ever, the 9 Rogers were together in the parking lot. It was surreal. And we were in 2 cars...because we don't have (and won't ever have) a passenger van!

We went to eat an early lunch at McDonalds..our first gourmet meal together. Then we headed to the River Walk bridge in Little Rock for some exercise and room to play. We had middleM for just a few hours. He wasn't going to get to go home with us, but we're not sure he understood that the other Ms were getting to come to our house.

It's been 2 long days. The newest Rogers slept around 12 hours each last night. I was the only one who didn't get very much sleep. I mean, I was exhausted (mentally) but couldn't believe we had 2 kids sleeping in our home and we don't even know anything about them! Do they sleep walk? Do they eat mac and cheese? Where are the prescriptions for their medicine? Where are all their clothes? Why didn't they come with their toys? ... Right this minute S and bigM are sharing a chair watching a movie, littleM and Richard are snuggled together watching and all is well. Two days down...a lifetime to go. (No faces or names can be posted yet...)

While brainstorming ideas for Monday afternoon Sheridan looks at me and says, "Your ideas of fun are really different than mine."  Ouch.

One hour later she joined me doing one of my suggestions...decorating the tree outside the window of her room. The project included taping fishing line to a tennis ball and launching it over the branches. It wasn't anything like I envisioned, but we were laughing at our attempts and when she said, "This is fun!" Go Mom!

One of my favorite things is having the table full for Sunday lunch. Richard hasn't been here for a couple of Sundays, so we haven't had company over for awhile. This Sunday we filled up our table with college kids. Something to remember:  college kids are always thankful for a home-cooked meal and they always clean their plates. (It's good for my confidence)

Fernando is from Mexico, he is a sophomore and we are his host family this school year. He calls us Mom and Dad and we know it's a compliment because he loves and misses his family very much.
